So that there can be no misperceptions, let us start by stressing what we do not do:
|
So what do we do? |
Career Headway aims to help clients:
You have been trained in how to do your job but when were you last trained in how to find a job? It is worth recognising that everyone needs career guidance. The problem is that, whilst everyone needs guidance, relatively few ever take it up. |
Why? |
We could go through all the old arguments - all perfectly valid - that, with guidance, you could expect to get a new job more quickly; that by knowing what you really have to offer and by pitching yourself in the right way to the right people, you could reasonably expect to secure a more rewarding job. But, at the end of it all, there is only one fundamental reason why most people do not take up career guidance... |
THE COST! |
Career consultancy used to be very expensive - until now. In fact, with most companies, it still is. If you do not believe us, have a look in the Yellow Pages and phone a few. Most will not quote any fees without meeting you. They will tell you that this is to enable them to assess your exact needs, so they can design the best programme for you. No suggestion that they might perhaps be wanting to assess you and then pitch a fee that they think would be within your budget? Push them for an idea of the cost, even if only a ball-park figure. If you can find one quoting less than £3000 (plus VAT) we would be very surprised. We even know of one national consultancy whose fees start at £10000. Many companies will not even speak with you unless your employer is sponsoring the fee. |
Why do they charge such fees? |
We would not wish to denigrate the quality of their service - it can be highly professional - but what are you actually getting for your hard-earned cash? Even 60 hours of one-to-one counselling at (say) £50 an hour would be at the bottom end of their price range. |
Let us face it… |
Fees keep these companies in nice offices in city-centre office blocks. We know this because our consultants have worked alongside such companies. And we have been shocked to see many, many people walk away. Why? It was simply that, despite their need for help, they could not afford that level of fee. These consultancies do not mind too much the loss of the occasional client - after all, you don't have to sell too many programmes at £3000 each to be able to live well. |
